Hi neighbors, I'm new here.

My oldest child goes to Curtis, one day he comes running home and goes straight to the bathroom because he couldn't hold it anymore. I asked him why he didn't go at the school restroom and he said that he would prefer to hold it because that day he saw a couple of kids smoking something with sharpies?!? He did tell the teacher and she said that she would handle it.

I started asking around and a kid tells me that one day he saw one of the gym lockers open and when he tried to close it, two small bag of white power fell from behind a poster that was on the door, he immediately call the gym coach and the coach told him to go that he would handle it.

I'm wondering how the APD its handling this? Im really concern about this

I would ask that question to Curtis's administration. I'm not trying to be trite but every so often someone posts a topic "Drug problem at ______ "(fill in the blank with any middle school and/or high school). Sadly, there is drug use at every one of the middle schools/high schools in Allen - probably elementary schools too. However, if my child wasn't able to use the restroom at school because he was scared of something he saw happening there, I'd take that directly to the school and not rely on what other people had heard.

This story sounds a little off to me. I have been in the locker rooms at Curtis. The boys are given two small lockers, definitely not big enough for a poster. Also, the lockers aren't solid they are ventilated with lots of see through space. If a boy did have a poster up with "bag(s) of white powered" behind the poster the bags would be visible from outside of the locker.

Not discrediting the original poster, but the story doesn't completely add up to me.

Kids deserve to feel safe at school. That said, I would tend to agree with you that either the story itself is off or there is more to it somewhere. When the drugs allegedly fell out from behind the poster in the gym locker - what did the student do with them? Tuck them back behind the poster? Give them to the coach?

If my child were so afraid of going to the bathroom at school, I would not respond by asking around to other kids. I would sit down with my child and an administrator at the school at earliest opportunity.

I don't have any need of making up stories, it was a simple question from a concerned parent. I did request a meeting with the Principal to talk about what my kid noticed in the restroom. Now, the story about the locker I cant say it happened for sure, that's why I specified that someone told me.

I'm guessing this site it's so quite it's because instead of being a neighborhood forum it's a court room where anything you say can be use against you! Sheesh

Welcome to Allen Online.

Yes, there are drug users everywhere. Sad, but true. Your kid did the right thing ... kudos. And you're doing the right thing following up on it.

Regarding this forum, take some comments with a grain of salt. Whether or not some of this information was factual ... it's what you were told and passed on. No harm with that.

Let us know what you find out after speaking with the principal.

I'll echo what Al C said. There have been a number of "trolls" on these boards in the past and so there may be some skepticism when someone doesn't have many posts on the boards and dives into a topic that is either controversial or that could be shocking to people. Most people on these forums want to be helpful and have neighborly discussion. I hope you can get some answers quickly so that whatever the facts are can be addressed and your child can focus on learning and being a kid again.

Maybe the kiddo needs less fiber in his diet?

Drugs are EVERYWHERE. It could have been one of the new liquid tobacco vapor thingy. White powder seems odd. Smoking crack in school is GOING to get noticed from the smell. I think the kiddo needs to understand that he will be seeing more and more drugs being taken in school and even by friends. The most important part is that he felt comfortable coming to you to discuss it. If you make this too big of a deal it will get back to him and he wont come to you to discuss it ever again. That's BAD.

Kids taking drugs is common (from highland park to the worst neighborhoods) and nothing he needs to fear. What he needs is the confidence to be his own person and refuse the temptation to join the pack.
