One of the kids is studying for a science test at school and there are errors on just about every page of the locally prepared study guide. I would talk to the district but in fourth and fifth grade they gaffed it off with, " it's just (fill in the blank) grade science so it is not really important that it's right. At some point you learn enough incorrect information that it is hard to learn the correct information. Then at some point you take all that incorrect information and build a stadium no one can use.

One of my math students keeps bringing study guides with errors in them. They are NOT prepared locally, but by a large, well known textbook firm. You'd think a couple of extra dollars spent on proofreading would be in order. Failing that, why aren't the teachers looking them over before handing them out?

I discussed it with the teacher and it was prepared by her. I spoke with the district science coordinator this morning. He could not comment without seeing it but I feel sure he will have a copy by close of business.

I should clarify. On rereading what I wrote, it could look like I was trying to say that your son's teacher didn't prepare his study guides. That's not at all what I intended. I was simply chiming in trying to say that the ones from the national texbook companies are also riddled with errors. The online homework sets often have errors too. It can be pretty discouraging.

I hear you. It is disgusting that teachers don't at least work the homework they assign to make sure that the problems make sense and have a correct answer in multiple choice situations. I am going to call on the board to be active and actually go into science and math classrooms to make sure that teachers are doing the job we have entrusted them to do.

Most of the handout materials I see coming home are pathetic and much is completely wrong. I have an engineering degree and the science is the worst. Math is second. When I took mathematics in school we had 1 hour of math homework a night. Now its done in 5 minutes or during off periods. Followed closely by the fact regurgitation disguised as history. I could teach it correctly, but then my kiddo gets marked incorrect by the full time coach, part time teacher.

It's no wonder our students are falling behind nationally and internationally.

Everybody from Colleges to elementary schools are dumbing down the curriculum requirements to keep their numbers.
