Looks like my 13 year old HVAC is about done for. I have a 2260 sq ft house, 2 units (upstairs & downstairs). Looking to replace with 14 SEER plus units, gas furnace (hate heat pumps). Got a quote for 12K for Rheem units to do both.
Looking for comparisons. That's what I hate about this. Cars I know what to expect, this, not so much. Need the AC due to health issues in family so can't shop around long. Tomorrow is going to be toasty.

I also bit the big bullet a few years ago and bought a new system. House built in 1994 and opted not to do a 1.7 repair to the unit. I got new everything - outside and unit in the attic with new better duct work in the attic. Best money I every spent. My electric bills went down about 30-35%. I have 2000 sq ft and remember a couple years ago when it was hot hot hot. My bill never got over $200.00. But also realize I've added more insulation in the attic at the same time. Worth every penny.

I used Advent Heating and air, had everything replaced inside and out, had the house duct work redone with a single 17 seer 5 ton unit. My power bill has not been over $200 since doing it and I keep my house cold.
Just remember to do the preventive maintenance.
