and I am trilled!!! Their choice not ours, but I am thrilled.

The AHS graduation ceremony is a freaking beatdown. Anytime you need to change announcers because they are getting horse, you have too many graduating. I am also not a fan of preventing the graduates from decorating their caps. It's THEIR graduation and frankly giving the audience something to look at other than a cavalcade of somebody else's kids dressed up in exactly what everyone else is dressed as would be a welcome break.

Make the ceremony fun and maybe we will go next time. Right now it's about as interesting HS calculus taught by Ben "Buhler, Buhler, Anyone" Stein.

I would have also preferred a 2 or three part ceremony in the PAC rather than trooping out to the AAC to pay Cuban $5 for parking.

I hope my daughter doesn't read this or she might want to skip it as well.

Cuban is a Pogue fan.

As someone who didn't walk the stage, I am truly sad at this decision. Something that your senior is certainly going to look back on and regret.

Neither of my kids will get the option. You put in way to much time and work not to be rewarded with the feeling of walking across the stage.

Oh I hear you, but we left it up to her. Additionally the Gparents are coming in and most of their time will end up getting utilized by finding parking and listening to .....Anderson.....Anderson.....Anderson.....Anderson.....Anderson.....Anderson...Andreesin...

You know the AHS graduation ceremony flows well and surprisingly took no longer than my high school graduation of 436 or my hubs graduation of 89. We've done it three times now and are glad we participated. Our oldest even used his leave and came back from Active Duty to see his baby brother graduate last year.

Speaking purely as a parent of a graduating senior, I plan to enjoy every minute of the graduation ceremony and I really hope I can make it through without crying like a baby. It's three hours out of my life to celebrate 18 years of accomplishments. I wouldn't miss it for the world.

Been through it - It's a beatdown.

I'd still love to see the rules eased up about cap decorations.

I would ask that all parents who choose to attend clear their schedules for the entire time. As has been pointed out, the ceremony is very efficient and goes quickly.

It is difficult to imagine anything more inconsiderate to the other families who made the effort to attend and then end up with someone's posterior in their faces as a family of 12 squeezes through saying 'scuse me, 'scuse me, pardon me, pardon me, while making an early exit during the very moment when the graduate that grandma travelled 8 states to see is crossing the stage and flashed on the big screen.

I watched graduation from the stage for 9 years and it was a procession of early departures from about 15 minutes into the ceremony until the end. If you can't stay the whole time, don't come at all.

Come early enough to be seated at the beginning and stay until the end. It takes less time than a football game. But leave the air horns and cowbells at home.

I've read your post several times today trying to find some validity in your arguments and have not been able to find any. Yes, it's the student's graduation and it's about them, but more importantly it's about what they've accomplished and for that there should be some degree of respect. With your perspective, perhaps it is best if your child isn't participating.
As far as letting the graduates decorate their caps as they wish, the ceremony would end up looking like a Barnum & Bailey circus parade marching down Main Street and all respect for commencement itself would be out the window.
Graduation exercises are not a tryout for America's Got Talent. For many students, high school graduation is the first major accomplishment in their lives. There's no need to water it down and trick it up.

I think the teachers and staff who run graduation have enough to do without adding "cap appropriateness monitor" to all their other duties.

No validity at all? None?

The ceremony is run efficiently but I see the pros/cons of both sides. Why not a little individuality of the caps especially in a school where you're a # among many?

You don't want it watered down? Let me discuss watering it down. Last year at the ceremony as a parent of a graduate I wasn't thrilled they paraded the 'exchange' students, calling out names and countries after they named the top 10 in the class. My kid works his tail off for four years and an exchange student who was here one or two semesters walks across the stage (some in not-so modest clothing) and gets recognition? That's watering down the accomplishment of the others.

I'm on the side of not decorating the caps because there are too many kids and I want it less distracting and I want it run efficiently. But I respect the other side.

As far as telling someone to not leave early, I sure wish some of those band parents would remember that during football games. I wish the ceremony order of names would remain secretive until the ceremony starts. I know people who showed up 2 hours later because their last name started with an "S".

Regarding not participating....any "Type A" person would demand their kid to do it. If my daughter didn't want to participate I'd honor her choice. It's HER DIPLOMA, not mine.

As a mom of four Allen ISD grads,I can tell you that none of my kids wanted to walk the aisle. As parents we said they had to and that they would regret it later in life.

MY kids have graduated college and did not walk the aisle for that either. Except my oldest who went to her law school graduation.

Yes it is a lot of kids but I can tell you they have the program down to a science it goes quickly and there is no reason to leave early since you have to pick up your kid afterwards anyway.

Decorating the caps not such a great idea but let them have a beach ball and some fun they do tend to be quite boring.

If your child chooses not to walk the aisle that is their choose and my kids still grumble to me when the subject comes up. Even after the death of their grandfather and he really did not want to go he did and his grandmother sat and watched him just like the others before him. Let your child make the choice wish i had.

Last time I checked it's her graduation. I didn't write her papers or do her math for her. If she wants to walk, I'll be there with bells. But it is her choice to make. One of many choices she will be making on her own without my influences or opinions. It's part of the graduating to adulthood that is symbolic the HS graduation.

Fortunately, she will have many more graduation events. When she wants to walk, I'll be there.

In the meantime I wish all the graduates the best. If the maverick girls were there and they opened up the beer concessions, I'd attend even without a graduate.

My daughter graduated last year and we had a blast. It went quicker than we thought with that many students. And we stayed the entire time, since we cheered for even our daughters friends who graduated also. As for hats being decorated? They didnt have it when i was in school, so I dont care about that, if you let kids start putting stuff on hats, then someone will cross the line and Allen will be in the news again, cause you KNOW one of those kids will put some kind of gang sign, dirty writing, etc...on it that will get the school in trouble for telling them to take it off. And I still remember myslef walking across the stage getting my diploma. a memory you never forget, high school or college.

How can you say that... that is so inappropriate.

...

You forgot to include the Stars Ice Girls.

Beer would make a graduation seem to go faster.

Everyone would be standing in line and would miss the graduation.

I feel that it is the childs graduation - if they want to miss it, that is their choice to make. It is a time of celebration you completed 12 years of school - that ia a BIG acommplishment so Congrats :)
I went to mine and really didn't want to, I did it more for my family, as soon as it was over I was out of there - but today I am glad I did it.

I missed my Prom, there are times were I regret it and there are times I am glad I didn't go - it all depends on the person.

I am sure you will celebrate the best way for your child - that will be the best for everyone in your family.
