My son is going on a mission trip to Panama in June, we need to get hiking boots and other essentials for the trip. Mesquito net, eating utensils, pants that turn into shorts, etc.

Where is the best place to shop for these that is less expensive?

Academy is one of the less expensive outdoor stores.

We were at Cabellas and they had racks full of boots on clearance in front of their store. Pretty good prices.

Awesome Thanks - on his next time off I will tell him to run up there.

I have 3 Eagle Scouts and when we have shopped for hiking gear, etc., we are able to find what we need at Academy. Their camping aisle has the mosquito netting, eating utensils and they do sell the pants that zip off above the knee to become shorts.

We also check at Dick's Sporting Goods and will find items there - usually look at their sale/clearance areas. REI in Plano is also good, but not inexpensive. They do have some items you can't find at regular sporting goods stores since they specialize in outdoor gear. Check their sales. You can sometimes get those 20% off coupons at Kroger for Sports Authority, but we usually don't shop there. Cabela's also has a really good selection of camping items, but check their sale/clearance items first since they are quite expensive on their regular priced items.

REI will be having their annual sale this coming weekend, so you might be able to find some good deals there.
