Being aware of the Pop Star Miley Cyrus and her well publicized antics and reading Mike Myers most recent Blog post made me realize these two seem to have more in common that the normal person might think.

http://allentxisd.blogspot.com/2014/06/the-lessons...

They both certainly have come in like Wrecking Balls.

While Miley sings about wrecking balls, "Dr. Strange Love" is now focused on cannon balls.

I think it is a stretch to compare the Above ground fuel storage at the bus barn to the Storage of Amonium Nitrate at the West fertilizer facility.

I'd like to know what the rest of you think?

I think it's amazing that it took so long for someone to mention that his blog was back in business.

My only concern is that Pogue is still building the above ground fuel structure.

I think at this point they are the best to do it. They will pay very very close attention to every detail and most likely even double check the architects plans with their own engineer before building.

What makes me laugh is that he has changed his "Statistically tracked" counter back to simply "Followers". I bet he has 10,000 facebook friends and is "friends" with everyone of them also. I think I added 3 followers to his list to prove my point. Crap...

I hope so, however it's not a chance I would take if I was AISD.

Nothing worth talking about. I had a blog on AISD in 1999 before the term "blog" had been coined. Took it down but participated here for all my time on the board. Gary and sco have also participated actively in online conversations during their time on the Board. This new transparency he touts has been active in Allen for a decade and a half.

The blog last year was only objectionable because he used it to publish closed session information and accuse fellow trustees of breaking the law.

This is fear mongering at its worst. We are surrounded by gasoline. Gasoline is stored at every major intersection in our fair city. I would be more worried about the natural gas pipes that criss cross the city.

Diesel does not Concuss like Ammonia Nitrate. NOT even close to compare.

Gasoline does not concuss like Ammonia Nitrate. The vast majority of the fuels stored will be diesel.

If you want a really good explosion in Allen, hit the Natty Gas feeder lines located all over the place here. Now that would make a heck of a boom.

Diesel would not cause a concussive explosion. the berms are designed to keep the liquid fuel from spreading in the event of a breech.

Like I said, I'm not concerned about the gas, but about the builder. I think a little skepticism towards Pogue is warranted after recent national black eyes.

Not really sure where he is getting his numbers.

According to DMN @ Dallas Morning News
Investigators have said that 22 minutes after the initial report of a fire at the West facility, around 28 to 34 tons of ammonium nitrate stored inside a seed room at the plant exploded. An additional 120 tons stored elsewhere at the plant did not explode.

Now... he may have access to a more recent document with better inventory... but if not... 154 tons is about 96 tons short of his 250.
Also the report says 28 - 34 tons exploded... which would be 56,000 - 68,000 pounds... not the 25,000 or 12.5 tons he said.

This is where it would be helpful if he listed sources for his information. Then again... that would most likely make his comments too tame and less scary.
Also...
the explosion launched debris as far as 2.5 miles

So... what plot of land that is clear of all residential, commercial, or agricultural land for 2.5 miles in all directions does he think it should go? Wait... he thinks it should be at the Freshman Center... good location.

Very Interesting, He makes it sound like the Super from West asked about the Bus Barn... Not the 60MM stadium that has been on the local State and National news, but the bus barn.

MM states:
"He asked where I was from and I said Allen, he says oh you guys have that bus facility don't you? and I said yes, and he said is that above ground and I said yes. I'd be interested in your viewpoint and his consideration was, Bury it, you need to bury it is all he said."

I love what followed and assume that was Jason's voice. "And what's his expertise on?" He's the Superintendent of West... "How did he connect the ammonium Nitrate to our fuel tanks?" (He was just talking about the high pressure gas and oil and diesel all in one place)

The motion to put it on the agenda died without a second.

Way to go Dr. Hindt. It is a Service Center much more than a bus barn.

I do agree with Ms. Masters point that chatting with him won't be a bad idea but not a full presentation. He will absolutely have great insight on Disaster Recovery and Responding to a Disaster. Even lessons learned about what the school could have done to better prepare for a disaster. However, like the board, I fail to see how he is suddenly an expert on building fuel tanks after the factory exploded in his town.
