Is watering your yard, trees, shrubs, foundation, etc by hose really more efficient than using a sprinkler system?
Zone 1...shrubs and foundation at front of house. Zone 2...side of house/foundation. Zone 5, other side of house and foundation. Zones 3 & 4 are front yard, 6 backyard and wouldn't be used except every other week on Tues. I can run zones 1, 2 & 5 for 10 mins each which is only 30 mins total, NOT 2 HOURS! I wouldn't even have to do this daily.
Guarantee you that I would use far less water than using a hose 2 hrs each day!

You are correct on all counts. See how easy that was to figure out what you and I both know and we're not even the 'experts'.

I think that they are counting on people being too lazy to drag out the hose and stand there using it.

Exactly this. That's why we have people like the young man in Frisco (saw it on either DMN or WFAA) that will hand-water your lawn for $10/hour. He's saving money for golf lessons and business is so good, he's thinking of bringing in some additional teens to help.
Capitalism at its finest :)
