Why is there a drone scanning/monitoring the crowd?? There are so many kids... if it crashes, someone is going to get hurt...not to mention privacy issues....anyone know who authorized this? Pretty outrageous....

Privacy issues? I could understand the privacy argument if people were on their own property or private event, but this is an open public event at a public park put on by the city that these people chose to attend.
There are tons of people out there (I just took a stroll out there from our neighborhood and I think it's the most attended celebration thus far. It keeps getting bigger and bigger)
I'm all for extra security measures for events like these. Whatever needs to be done to make it safe for all.

No problem with security but not so happy with it flying over a crowd...it is windy and there is the potential for pilot error...in this size of a crowd, someone would get hurt, especially if the crowd reacted by running from it.

The drone didn't really bother me but the open carry crowd did.

LOL. The one at celebration park was probably 4 pounds and 2 feet square hobby RC quadcopter. Quite the contrast to a 60 pound 13 foot military search and destroy drone.. The sky is falling!

There is a difference between a military drone and a civilian R/C controlled toy. A whole lot of difference.

Here's a Toy R/C from last year.
http://nypost.com/2013/09/05/man-decapi tated-by-re...
Let's take the "unusual stunt" out of it and let's say the Toy R/C malfunctions while in the air over a group of families.
I bet law suits would fly.

Most likely it was personal aircraft by Allen TV or similar getting Arial shots of the event. I doubt it had anything to do with surveillance

Southwest Airlines keeps flying routes over my neighborhood. And, there are kids, kittens, and puppies in my neighborhood. Those big, honkin jets would cause mayhem if one would come down!

A bit of trivia... The navigation beacon in Blue Ridge, TX is the reason planes fly over Allen on their way to DFW and Love Field.

Yes, there were between 6-8 men with assault style rifles (I didn't get close enough to inspect for accurate details) and a banner that said Open Carry Texas with a website listing. They were on the corner of Angel Parkway and Malone Drive.

The drones were looking for water violators.

Did they make you feel safer? To me they are an accident waiting to happen.

They made me very, very uncomfortable. I grew up in a rural area and am used to rifles, hunting, etc. I'm generally okay with permitted concealed carry. In my opinion, this was just a display of wing nut machismo.

I am glad the police where present for the celebration but I didn't like the drones flying above. As others have said, if it were to crash into the crowd someone would likely be injured.
I'm glad the city is trying to keep drugs away from the festival, but wish they would be more tactful.
