I thought this book was great! But, either I do not keep up with what is going on, or this book just has not been talked about that much. Has anyone else read it? If so did you think it was good, bad?

I read it several months ago and thought it was amazing. I think it has had quite a bit of publicity in book-club circles, but perhaps not beyond that.
I hear there is a film in the works.

I thought it was wonderful. It educated me on some things about the Afghan culture. It had a good moral to the story. I strongly suggest it.

It's a wonderful book and I highly recommend it. I was fortunate to meet the author a few years ago. The Richardson Book Club arranged for him to speak and he was simply charming. I was hoping to get to speak to him but the auditorium was packed with people and it was impossible.

The "Richardson Book Club" is actually Richardson Reads One Book - an organization affiliated with the Richardson Adult Literacy Center. It's one of many similiar programs nationwide which select an interesting book, promote it to the community and coordinate with community groups to set up book discussions. One activity common to these One Book programs is an author event like was mentioned. Richardson Reads One Book will be featuring the book "The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls this year.
Allen will also have a One Book program this year although I don't know if it's been publicly announced yet. Judging from the quality and popularity of the Allen Library events, it should be a very nice program. I'm sure there will be lots of publicity once details are ironed out.
