Suggest that if one reads the series, it is good to go in order:
1) The Last Jihad
2) The Last Days
3) The Ezekiel Option
4) The Copper Scroll
Joel Rosenberg reads kind of like Dan Brown meets Raiders of the Lost Ark. Keep in mind the books are fiction. But still, the Last Jihad opens with a kamikaze assassination attempt on the president of the US and Saddam Hussein is the bad guy. The book was written, but not yet published, before 9-11. Rush Limbaugh is one of the endorsers on the cover - but don't let that stop you - ROFL.
I also like the oil industry connection - just me personally.
