For over a month TWC demonstrated horrible customer service when our internet service was not working. On average, we waited 15-20 minutes to simply speak with a TWC rep to explain the same story over & over. . 5 different TWC techs were sent to our house to diagnose the same problem. Techs 2 thru 5 indicated the line technician department never came out to fix the problem that was originally diagnosed. Tech #5 was so disgusted with his companies performance that he reccomended we switch to Uverse - the new Fiber Optic service from AT&T that just arrived in Allen. He lives in McKinney and said he will be switching as soon as it arrives. . Uverse is great
Uverse arrived in Allen 3 weeks ago and Monopolistic TWC is no longer the only choice for speeds above 1.5
To all in Allen - if your as frustrated as I was and still am at TWC - explore Uverse - you'll be thankful that you did.

Uverse isn't available on my street yet. Is it cheaper than TWC?

Less expensive than TWC, especially when you combine the TV & Internet package. Greater # of channels too!!

So how much does one pay for phone+internet+cable? I have a no frills land line I pay $40 DSL - $25 Dish America's top 60 + a dual tuner DVR + a standalone reciever - $50
Total price $115 to $125 (I am recalling from memory). Price includes all taxes and fees.
How does your cost for these services compare? I am curious.

I just checked my address, it's not yet available in the Malone / E. Main area. I signed up to be alerted when it is. Ever hopeful.......

We have Time Warner for telephone, internet and cable TV, with only the hi-def and sports pacakges (no movie channels like HBO and whatnot) and pay $136 a month.
So if this fiber-optic solution can do all that, provide more hi-def channels and faster internet and do it all for less, I'm there!!!!!

Yo Scoop! How do they do the internet deal? Do you have to buy a wireless card or something. Can I finally get rid of my regular landline phone?

I don't have a landline at home so are there options (other than TWC) that won't cost me $58 a month for internet service? I don't need cable TV or any extras -- just internet.

Jay J, Make the move - the only problem is you will have to wait 20 minutes just to talk with a TWC rep to cancel your service.

We've become a cell phone only family. Got rid of our landline - nobody was using it. Uverse provides all the equipment - no need for a landline, modem, router or wireless adapters. They install it all for you.

Thanks that's exactly what I need to hear. The fact that I HAVE to pay ATT over $40 a month for a phone line when I seldom if ever uses it ticks me off

Scoop-
What part of Allen do you live in, if you don't mind me asking? Uverse isn't available at my house yet (they haven't laid the lines as far as I know), so I went on the website and checked my cousin's house on the west side of Allen, and its not available there either.
Thanks.

Stinks is an understatement. TWC's service is unreliable, they have a total lack of respect for their customers and could care less about putting their customers on hold for 20 minutes just to reach a representative.
FIBER IS HERE - TWC BLOWS!!!!

Well, after some research, it looks like my only options are TWC or dial-up. Guess I'll stick with dial-up.

I am astounded that TWC can even stay in business. SURELY there are better options out there that the City of Allen could get in here. The customer service (or should I say the LACK of customer service) is completely absurd and would make a great comedy--if it weren't so sad and so true. I didn't realize AT&T had fiber available in Allen. I doubt it is in my area--an older, already settled area, but I am going to check it out right now. We have had TWC internet for a while and suffered several unexplained outages, incompetent technicians, and recently went through pure H*LL trying to get TV service through them.
