I looked on the website and called the number posted, but there is no new information. Will we be having the celebration? If not does anyone know when or if it will be rescheduled?

I heard the celebration would go on rain or shine. Was trying to look at the site myself but can't get there - city server must be down temporarily.

I have been told by several city employees that the celebration will be held rain or shine. The decision about the fireworks is up to the company setting them off, though.

Just think of those vendors who paid a lot of money to the city for spaces.

Per the City of Allen special events hotline (214-509-4811), as of 5:00, Allen USA has been cancelled. The fireworks are still scheduled for 10:00, but all the other activities are cancelled. If the fireworks do have to be cancelled due to weather, the will be rescheduled for tomorrow night at 10:00.

Just talked to my friend who works for the city and he said they were planning on "rain or shine" not a dangerous electrical storm...

Oh it will go on, unless some natural disaster forces the city to cancel it.
I can tell you this. It's a great event. But the length that the City goes to... to make it into something it is not, is amazing.
In 2005, I was present when a city planner made his original estimate of "68,000...just looking out over everything". I have seen 5,000 men on parade....and there were not that many people in Celebration Park that evening, nor had there been much more than that total throughout that evening....period. There is a need to make this event be much bigger than it actually is.
It's a neat Celebration and I'm so glad the City hosts it. But, It's not the crowd you get with even a minor Texas Stadium event and the tales to the contrary are just that....tales....period.

We went and it was soaked. Our first time as we are newer here. Since it was raining, we decided to try again, and went to the Frisco Freedom event on the 4th (sun shine). What a disaster, the worst managed event I have been to in a while. Not enough tents/vendors to appease the crowd. Only about 6-8 food Vendors, lines were devastating. The kids activities (face painting) lines were the worse! Parking was a disaster, they were busing poeple in from remote sites and the grid lock was unbearable. If that was not enough, after the fireworks, there was a MAD DASH to the parking lots. It took us over an hour to get out of our parking spot and just to the main rd. Then another hour out of Frisco to Allen. We got home around midnight. There needs to be traffic school for the department and the event coordinators. I was trapped in that lot, and there was no rd infrastrucute to handle this. Wow, I hope Allen does not get rained out next year, I will stay close to home and not turn a small jaunt down to Frisco into a 5 hour ordeal.
