I don't read the Harry Potter books, but have enjoyed the movies. I was at the mall today with my family and didn't see the new Harry Potter book on the bookstore shelves at the mall, but did see it at Target. I'm just curious how many people here went out to get this book so far this weekend.

Never seen any of the shows, or the books, but it's big with my people (as with many others. They got tickets to get in a line (just like their midnight line for the latest movie). They got their books, and are feverishly marching through them.
They told me, that after doing all that, they stopped in a Kroger....and there were two piles of 'em,. and nobody trying to get 'em, haha.

I was just happy to see Harry Potter come in number TWO at the box office after all the media hype! Daughter reserved her book in advance and read it all night. I enjoy the movies but certainly wouldn't stand in line for it. Usually wait until it comes on DVD where I can get if from a rental place free for a night.

I ordered mine online the day they started taking orders. Thoroughly enjoyed the book. Have not yet seen the newest movie.

The new book rocks! The movie is good but I always enjoy the books much better. I guess it's cause they have to cut a lot to fit in the timeframe for a movie.

I always found that my own imagination was better than some director's or screenwriter's. I think that is why I always like books better.

I also agree. Though I admit to being very impressed with the HP movies. Especially the first 3. So far the first 4 films have stuck very closely to the essential Harry Potter canon, despite the story compression required to get these books onto the screen and the limitations of having to use someone else's ideas of what some magical creatures look like.

Enjoyed the movie, but haven't read any of the Harry Potter books.

I've read all the books and have watched all the movies (except that last one--been too busy.)
My daughter came across our first 3 HP dvds and wanted to watch them. She's loving them so far, but I don't think we're going to let her watch anything beyond the 3rd movie until she's older.

Ms. Rowling has revealed Dumboldore is gay. With all the hype, you'd think this was cataclysmic news.

So it will be interesting to see if more school districts ban the books.

I was surprised to hear that news release and must have missed that fact somewhere. Do the books indicate this someplace?

No - but all the media is saying you can read between the lines now that the announcement has come out. Maybe the author is trying to use the popularity to pitch a tolerance platform since her books did do so well as far as getting fans reading again. To me it's moot - doesn't really matter and doesn't affect my opinion of the books at all. But I know it will add to the furor and possible censorship of the book. And that makes me sad.
