I am looking at having Hardwood floors installed in our house. Can anyone tell me there experience with installers good or bad?
I have three kids and three cats what type of wood would you recommend. I want it to last at a resonable price.

Do you already have the wood or are you looking for that too? Do you want use Pergo, hardwood planks, or engineered hardwood?
If you want to use Pergo, DO NOT buy it at Lowes or HD. There is a better grade of Pergo available at flooring stores.
Hardwood is great, but really expensive. Engineered hardwood has real wood on the top with criss-crossed planks underneath to keep it from warping from the weather changes.
Of course, there are many different types of hardwood with Brazilian cherry and mesquite being among the hardest.
There are also different types of installation and the floating was the best for us.

I bought the wood at Peeks and that part went well. I had their guys come in to lay the wood and it was a HACK job. I ended up getting $4,000 back which was over half of the amount I paid for the wood and I paid nothing for labor. I got a floor for less than half price but I got zero warranty from the installer or Kahrs which was the manufacturer. I would find an independent , get references and call at least 10 before you let anyone lay it.

Rodenbaugh's (see advertisement on this website) installed Amtico flooring in our house. The installation was top notch. They also installed tile flooring at my neighbor's house with good results. They weren't the cheapest, but they did good work. Amtico flooring is a rugged PVC plank that looks like wood, but is more durable than real wood or laminates.
