We will never again purchase a Maytag anything. We bought a new Maytag dishwasher only four years ago and it died this morning. The heating element had burned through the plastic tub at the bottom and water was all over the floor. What a mess to clean up! I called Adam the Answer Man and they said it would be more expensive to replace the tub than to buy a new dishwasher, so we're going to have to get a new one.

I want my new dishwasher to be:
energy efficient
clean the dishes properly
have a stainless steel interior and exterior door
clean quietly

Any recommendations? - Thanks.

We just replaced our Whirlpool Gold dishwasher last week. It was less than 6 years old. We chose to replace with a mid priced Maytag...after much research Whirlpool/Maytag was the brand that was recommended time and again. We went with a lower priced option this time so we would be satisfied with 5-6 years of service and very pleased if it lasted longer. Most research states dishwashers should last 9-12 years. We've had horrible luck with our appliances here in Texas. Don't think it's Texas - just think appliances aren't "made like they used to be". Good luck with your new purchase!

Stay away from Amana. Amana and Maytag are one and the same.

Whirlpool now owns Maytag so you are getting a Whirlpool-made appliance when you buy Whirlpool, Maytag or Amana.

That much is true about appliances, car batteries and many things in our society. Marketing under different Brand names appeals to consumers, yet some of the Brands are coming from the same sources.

I knew about Maytag owning Amana. That was about the time Maytag came out with the Amana style refrigerators with the bottom freezer.

Does anyone know about the Kitchenaid dishwashers? What about the newer to the market brands such as LG or Fisher & Paykel?

Well, I might be eating my words about not getting another Maytag. I contacted Maytag through their website explaining what happened to the dishwasher. I got a reply back saying that the plastic tub lining is fully covered under their warranty (20 year warranty) and the whole dishwasher will be replaced at no cost to me. I just have to wait for the technician to come out to look at it on Monday then call Maytag to confirm that it did fail and leaked. And to think we were ready to spend a few hundred dollars on a new one . . .We even had one picked out! I'm glad they responded to my e-mail! And, they were very nice when I called them at their customer service number. They even helped me set up a service call. I had asked about an appliance place here locally, but they only warranty the ones they sell. We bought ours at Home Depot, so the appliance place won't touch it. We had to get someone from Royce City to do the service call. Oh, well - at least we're getting a new one.

Yes, and as I told my husband, the customer service people sounded like they are right here in the U.S. The first lady I talked to had a southern accent and when I called back the second time to get help with setting up the appointment, the gentleman who helped me also sounded like he was from this country. I say this because nowadays when I call a customer service number I am often connected with someone who speaks English as a second language and they're hard to understand and I always wonder how much they understand what I am saying - very frustrating.
