I've heard it's going to be a La Quinta.

WOW! I'm sure that is just what ASI wants in front of their gym! Or what parents want near they're kids gymnastics place.

Apparently there was a great need for all the softball teams playing tournaments at Allen Station Park.

Can't be a La Quinta...there's no Denny's there!
(Hope I'm not the only one that noticed that those are most often next to eachother)

I wouldn't mind seeing a Denney's in Allen, we could use another 24 hour place to eat.

That reminds me of one of my dear friends. He convinced his wife that La Quinta, means next to Denny's. Thanks for the memories.

Huh? I'm not sure why it is considered bad to have a hotel next to a place that caters to children. LaQuinta isn't the Hilton but it isn't exactly a seedy flop house either.

That's silly. Everyone knows La Quinta means...
The Quinta.

According to the Babelfish Altavista translator, La Quinta means The Villa.

Why wouldn't I want it next to me, is probably my best answer. You never know who is staying at a hotel/motel. I wouldn't want a lot of strangers near my kids. Maybe I'm overprotective of our students, but that's the way I am. Places we go for field trips have background checks done on employees, or we don't go. Cluck cluck cluck that's this mother hen.

Wouldn't any type of business going into a location equate to strangers being in the vicinity? Hotel, motel, restaurant, car wash, retail. They are all going to be strangers.

In those other businesses most people don't stay at the business very long, at a motel/hotel they can stay a very long time. I admit it might be an over reaction, but still it would make me uncomfortable for my business.
I live very close to where this La Quinta is being built (less than 1/4 mile), that doesn't bother me at all.

I was involved in getting the Hampton up at Stacy/Chelsea built a couple years ago. The feasibility study for that one showed there was barely enough demand for it at the time, and did not project much more going forward.
The Hilton Garden Inn at Bethany is helped by a convention contract it has with the city, but there really aren't many demand drivers in the Allen area for hotels other than family visitors, a few outlet shoppers (rare) and a few businesses..nothing like Frisco or Plano, though. Technology is a big part of Allen's economy, and they don't create the same hotel traffic as many financial companies do...along the Tollway. There are also a couple new hotels planned for McKinney up near 75/Eldorado, and there was (and may still be, I'm not sure) a boutique hotel planned for Craig Ranch.
I don't really get why a La Quinta is going in there, just like I don't get why MGHerring is saying an 8-story office is going in at Greenville/Stacy and a 200-room Embassy Suites is going in at Stacy/75. We may have a problem with hotels in our future similar to what Frisco will have to deal with on the retail front...lots of vacancy and failures.
The only way I see hotel demand increasing substantially in the Allen/McKinney area in the near future is if three major things happen - 1, TKI (McKinney Airport) is opened to commercial traffic (this is a possibility in the next decade)...2, businesses decide to start moving up the US-75 corridor instead of the Tollway into Frisco/Plano (nuh uh)...and 3, the Byron Nelson Tournament moves from Las Colinas to the TPC at Craig Ranch (this WILL happen, very soon).
