I titled this post non-fiction because I know not everyone is interested in non-fiction topics, I rarely am, so I wanted to send the warning.
I bought a book about a year ago that I finally got around to reading this last week and am sorry I put it off as it is a really interesting book!
It's called "America Alone; The End of the World as We Know It" by Mark Steyn. It's not about isolationism or America-bashing. It's about the falling/failing demographics in Western Europe and the subsequent Islamization of many EU countries. It answers many questions about why we are hated and why we probably shouldn't care.
Whether you agree with him or not, it has very eye-opening info...

Interesting. I've rededicated an interest in certain books this past week or so. I may look into that one too.
I'm going to play off your Topic, as this fits that well. Some know that I've toyed with an idea for a children's book for a spell. I'm open to input or direction again on where to start. I've already made some initial inquiries about it. But I might as well use this network of educated, opinionated posters of all things.
This is an idea for a short, fun reader, with pics even. 
It's non-fiction, as it's based on an event at work one time.

As I continue to investigate writing this short book thing, it's easy to become overwhelmed with the steps, haha. Anyone out there done any "self publishing" stuff?

You might want to look at some of the books offered at Amazon.com about Self-Publishing. I don't know if it would help you but it might be worth a look. Also, make sure to read the customers reviews on each book.

Civic, you can check the library catalog to see if any of those books are available through them or Plano's libraries.

Thanks bunches. I'm already planning some recon to area libraries. Been behind on that anyway. I used to have cards to check out from several cities libraries.
This darn Internet thing is a double edged sword, haha.

I just finished a couple of wonderful non-fictions. The Soul of a Horse: Life Lessons from the Herd is by Joe Camp (Benji's 'dad'). It chronicles his experience with becoming a natural horseman. And can provide interesting insights into human nature as well. The second is Isaac's Storm. It tells the story of the hurricane that struck Galveston in September 1900. A very well done reconstruction of the storm & the aftermath. It also provides an interesting glimpse of the nascent Weather Service, the mistakes made & why.

We've gone to see The Great Storm in Galveston and read some of the books down there about it, sad but riveting
