I'd be interested as well. As an avid cyclist myself and with a wife who is starting to ride some of the neighborhood roads and paths as well I'd like to see Allen become more bicycle friendly (though it's far from the worst place for bikes I can think of as it is)

Appears that not much has changed or those that were working toward a change either aren't coming back here to talk about it or have dropped it altogether.

Don't know how many are still interested in this topic, but I've got some news to pass. It's almost last minute, but here it is anyway.

Giving this topic another hit. Any developments on this?

I guess I should've kept reading before my first response. Anything significant come out of this meeting?

I didn't get to show up for the Dallas bike plan meeting, but from what I heard it was mostly a information gathering session. You can go out to http://www.dallasbikeplan.org to take a survey and take a look at their "interactive" map.
Shoot me a PM if you want a tour of some of the better bike routes and trails around Allen. I'm mostly familiar with the routes on the east side, but I do wander over to the west side of Allen from time to time.

I was looking at Trek and GT models, but ended up with a Schwinn Fastback Elite. It was just a bit more than the other two but had many more features that would've been expensive upgrades later on for the others. Light as a feather (but not as light as the upper level road bikes) with carbon forks (but then they all have those now days) and seat stays. Nice smooth ride and comfortable.

Nice bike! Did you get it in time to ride in the Collin Classic?

The Collin Classic was last weekend. It started at the McKinney North High School campus, went through downtown McKinney and had routes from 20 to 60 miles. It seemed like there were well over 1,000 riders (it was difficult to tell exactly how many).
But if you are looking into getting into riding, you can check out the ride calendar at http://www.bicycle-stuff.com/. The Plano Bicycle Association, and Richardson Bike Mart put on multiple weekly group rides.
