Hi folks!
My wife and I just moved to Allen from Virginia. We would love to hear any suggestions for a fantastic place that serves traditional breakfast items as well as above and beyond the basics. We're hoping to find something in the rough area around McDermott and 75. Thanks for any suggestions or recommendations.
Gee, I'm really sorry your mom blew up, Ricky, guess she won't be able to eat any spicy foods for awhile.

Matt, welcome. To play with your words, a great breakfast in that area would be rough to find. There are obviously many places around for breakfast, but if you want an awesome one, I'm not sure. Allen's post sums it up.
But perhaps Mimi's, or Cracker Barrel, or Steak and Shake will get ya started while we look? And please report when you find one, 'cause we share eateries around here.
Most of all, welcome to Allen and Happy Holidays to you.
Well there you go Matt. orangecat reminds us to seek out those businesses in here, and shiraz mentions a local eatery I didn't think of. We're a helpful bunch for the most part. But remember to share your finds.

Welcome!
Drive down 75, exit at Parker, and eat at the Original Pancake House.

In Allen, you might consider Voila:
www.voila-bakery.com
they are a sponser here, and have won awards from the Dallas Morning News.
Also in Allen is El Grande Burrito; they advertise here as well, and have great casual Mexican breakfasts
(and lunch, dinner). They are located at Greenville and Bethany (SE corner).
I also really like Poor Richard's in Plano. It is a straight shot down Ave. K. Southern breakfasts.

We're currently staying at a hotel in Plano until Monday, when we move into our house. The reason that I posted this question was that we ate at a terrific place here and I was hoping to find something close to where we would be living but anyways....
The place is Bread Winners and it's on Preston at Spring Creek in Plano. Fantastic food and a nice atmosphere. Very friendly people working there and we had an all around great experience. It's a tad on the pricey side for breakfast but it's the kind of place I'd want to take folks who were visiting from out of town. Very impressed with it and highly recommend.
Thanks for the suggestions, will try Voila and Poor Richards.

Well, there's a couple of hundred people a day that would dissagree and suggest The Allen Cafe for breakfast. Also went there for lunch yesterday and had to wait for a parking spot since the lot was completely full.. We'll probably have breakfast there this morning. Best omelets around, generous portions and if you haven't tried the Farmer's Skillet, ya oughta. Second choice is definately Poor Richards, but why drive to Plano when you don't have to. Mimis is nice if you're trying to impress someone, but way overpriced for the average family.

Ah, OK. Yes, breadwinners is very nice. The closest to you would be Voila, but it is not a full service restaurant like Breadwinners. Still very good items.
Also, other interesting breakfast places (but not in Allen) are:
www.cafedefranceplano.com
I really like this place for breakfast- great coffee and croissant sandwiches.
And:
www.cafebrazil.com
There are a few around; one on 75 near Campbell in Richardson, another on 75 near 121 in McKinney, and another in Plano 190/Coit. The menu may look a bit odd for breakfast, but I just love it. I love the rosemary potatoes.
Both of the above will be in the Breadwinner's price range.
For a less expensive breakfast there is always the ubiquitous Waffle House. There is one at Ave K and Spring Creek in Plano. You will forever get mixed reviews on Waffle House, but I really like it. Great hash browns loaded with onions.
www.wafflehouse.com
Another option for a Sunday in Allen is the Woodlands Grill at Watter's Creek 75/Bethany (SW corner). They do a brunch, but I have not been to it.
www.woodlands-grill.com.
Good luck. Allen is getting lots of nice restaurants, but not so many catering to breakfast.

Matt,
I also welcome you and yours and would also say Allen Cafe is great for breakfast. Yummy biscuits and sausage cream gravy! Hope you aren't trying to watch your waistline.

If you want a traditional breakfast then go to Poor Richard's Cafe at Aveue K and Park Blvd in Plano. You can get biscuts and gravy, grits, bacon, and eggs.
Or if you want a slightly different tradition then try El Grande Burrito at Bethany and Highway 5. They have some of the best breakfast tacos that I've ever eaten.

We enjoy Mimi's for a treat, at McDermott and 75. A lot of times their breakfast is big enough to split, that helps on the cost. It's more than Denny's or IHOP, but not outrageous. Right now they have wonderful Pumpkin Pancakes for the Fall, it comes with pancakes, 2 eggs, and 4 slices of bacon for about $8, I easily split it with my companion.

Welcome to our little corner of the world. If you want to try a southwestern twist to your breakfast then Tin Star would be the place. They also offer some traditional items. Breakfast is served only weekends. They are located a little further west on McDermott (2 traffic lights)-just passed 7-11 and Lowe's, on the right. Check out their menu at Link.

Market Street is nice; SW corner of 75 and Bethany. You can get great coffee; breakfast, lunch, or dinnery; and then grocery shop. Of course, the breakfast selection might not be as much of a variety as you would like but it's a good price. They have great muffins and other baked good, and scrambled eggs with lots of choices to go with them, breakfast pizza, and I think biscuits and gravy and some rollups or Mexican items.

Well, this doesn't fit the category of restaurants you name here, but there's always Bill Smith's in McKinney. Atmosphere is not much to write home about, but I understand they have good breakfasts.

I think that Allen Cafe is going to come off as very mediocre (although much less expensive) than Breadwinners. Poor Richard's would probably be a better choice, but they are closer to IHOP than Breadwinners.
My family likes Tinstar and El Grande the best, but to each his (or her) own.

I agree. In the original post, the OP did not mention exactly what he was after. I think all of the recommendations (i.e., Bill's) are very good ones. They run the gamut. Sometimes Breadwinners is just right, at others, it is the wonderful El Grande. Even the suggestion of Market Street is nice. A coffee and Danish to start your day before shopping on an early Saturday. It is nice to know all of these options.
My guess is the gentleman is too busy moving into his new abode to worry about such trivialities right now ;).
