I was driving down Allen Heights tonight and saw something out of the corner of my eye at Allen Heights and Bardwell. I look more closely as I was driving and oh my heck...it was a coyote!!! Standing right there on the corner underneath the street lamp!

Now...I know that people have said that there are coyotes here in town along the creek beds...but to see one with my eyes was a whole nother matter!

If you live along that creek bed...keep an eye out for your small creatures!

There are still lots of coyotes in the area. I've heard and seen them along cottonwood creek. I've even seen them in Plano as recently as a couple of weeks ago along Bluebonnet trail while I was riding my bike to work.

I have heard about people seeing them in town...but it still caught me totally off guard! It was pretty large...could have easily carried off a cat or small dog.

Oh yes... They can and do catch small animals (slow cats and small dogs) which wander around the neighborhood.

Early one morning several years ago, we saw a coyote eating a cat at the house across the street from us - several blocks away from a creek bed. We videotaped it and gave it to the police (this was during the time of all the strange cat mutilations).

Well if you see it again, tell it to come over to our place, we've got a TON of rabbits that it can take care of for us, ha ha...

We've lived in Allen, near the Plano border for 12 years and see and hear coyotes near us and in other parts of town fairly often. They are everywhere in town, and travel freely up and down the creekbeds. Keep your small pets with you, and they shouldn't cause you any trouble. You would be surprised what all they eat though. Once I found a pile of coyote poo (you can tell because it's full of fur and small bones) that had a McDonalds ketchup packet embedded in it. If you come across a pile of polished oval seeds, they have been eating the local wild persimmons.

There are coyotes all over Allen. Last winter, right before dark we saw a bobcat crossing Allen Station drive where the bridge is at the creek just north of Allen Station Skate Park.

Well - glad my sore throat kept me from getting my walk in last night. I pass through that area on my route. Guess I won't be complaining about my throat today. Then again, if I had seen it, I might have improved my time a bit.

Coyotes won't bother anything bigger than they are (unless they have rabies). They are more afraid of you than you are of them. You should be quite safe.

When the weather is warmer and we keep our windows open at night, I can hear a group of coyotes howling at each other down in the woods near our house. I know a neighbor down our alley who won't take his trash out at night because his house backs up to the wooded area. He is afraid a coyote might come out and get him! I would be more afraid of the two legged critters wondering around at night rather than the four legged kind.

I walk a dog along Russel Creek every afternoon, and for weeks now I have seen 3 of them, they come out of the brush along the creek and sunbathe. It is the wildest thing .. I ended up taking a cell picture of one .. later I noticed animal control come through, so someone must have called .. but they had already gone back in the brush .. it's pretty scary to me, and I don't want the dog and the coyotes to get into it .. so we go out the alley and skip streets to walk elsewhere..
Let is Snow .. Let it Snow ... Leeet it Snooow!

I saw one Sunday night (the 23rd). I was north on Greenville, just having crossed Chaparral when I saw spotted it.

Poor things, altough they may be afraid of us, I'm not going to keep still. I'll be the streak of light passing you all. :)
