Here is a picture of both our dogs together. Charlie likes to prop his chin on whatever is closest and this time it was our bassett hound, Katie.

Too cute! When we had both our bischons, the older one would always have her chin on the second one. We have great pictures of it. Thanks for posting.

Denise,
they are just too sweet! Katie doesn't look too put out by Charlie using her as a chin rest.

Well, we said good-bye to our Katie this past week (pictured above as the chin rest). She was 14.5+ years old and I'll just say it was time for her and she was ready. She had a lot going wrong with her. She may not have been the smartest dog, but she sure was a sweet dog. Here are a few things she has done over the years that made us laugh:
We had a covered litter box for our cat and one night we heard a ruckus and Katie was hollering like someone was beating her. My husband was out of bed and downstairs in a flash to find the top of the litter box stuck on her with litter all over the floor. Needless to say, she was trying to get what I'm sure dogs would call, "cat crunchies" and got stuck! We laughed the whole time cleaning up her mess!
Tim Carroll stopped at our house on Cub Scout business one day shortly after we brought Katie home in 2001. She was still working on not being nervous when someone came in the house and squatted at his feet and peed. Thank goodness it was on the tile and not on his feet! LOL!
She surprised us with her speed once when we opened our gate and out she shot after a rabbit. Her temporary name for that day was, "Flash." It was only a one time thing. She normally would let the rabbits scamper across our lawn without so much as lifting her head.
When we let her outside to potty, she would walk out just far enough so her front feet were on the grass. But, being a long dog, her back half didn't quite make it off the patio or driveway. At least it was outside!
She loved going for walks and going up to the school to get the boys when they were in elementary. She loved the attention from all the students who would stop to pet her.
When my youngest son was a toddler, Katie would allow him to curl up on her dog bed beside her to nap. I found him like that a couple times.
She loved her food and would let us know that she wanted to be fed, although towards the end it just wasn't the same.
We appreciate all the care she has received over the years from the staff and doctors at Allen Veterinary Hospital. Drs. Overton and Coffman saw her the majority of the time and they were wonderful. Dr. Coffman helped us with her on her last day. He is a very compassionate veterinarian. They do a great job with the animals and their people.

Dogs are such wonderful beings - They provide years of joy and companionship and in return only ask for our help in guiding them through one really horrible day.
Denise, please accept our sincerest condolences.

Sorry to hear about Katie's passing. She certainly was given a good home and family.
