Did anyone start at the new Goddard School this week? Just wondering how the opening day went.

Our son has registered and gotten all signed up but he will not start attending until mid-March.

I will say we liked the building, teachers, owner, director etc. We are hoping everything runs as they say and smoothly.

My son is going to Goddards in Allen.
I like the place and the teachers keep the kids clean and hygenic.
In terms of learning, he started a week ago so I wouldnt know much yet.
I will wait and see.
I heard great things about Goddards and hence enrolled him....will wait and see

Thanks

OK, so my little guy (5 months) goes to Goddard for his first day on Monday.

Please tell me everything is still going well at this new school.

My niece is going there and loves it! My sister is very happy with it.
Crazy doesn't even begin to cover it.

Will work for shoes!

I looked into enrolling my son at this school for this school year and upon all of my questioning (I ask TONS of questions b/c my son's education means a LOT to me), I found out that their teachers (some) have a degree, but are not certified by the state. YIKES!

I didn't realize many preschool teachers had degrees and were state certified.

My son is at Goddard. He (and I) LOVE it there! A previous poster said that Goddard preschool teachers are not state certified. That had me worried so I looked into it and here’s the skinny: The state doesn’t offer certification for preschool teachers. I think you’re confusing elementary, middle and high school teachers which of course must take a test to get certified by the state to teach. Goddard’s lead teachers have degrees – and two have Masters in Education – their assistant teachers are college students working towards their degrees. The biggest difference is that Goddard teachers use their education to write their own lesson plans which are theme related and are based on the individual children in their classroom vs. let’s say a prewritten lesson plan that is dictated at corporate and funnels down for all children – regardless of the level they are at. You have to visit Goddard, sit in a classroom and observe to get the true feel for the place—or any place for that matter. I sat in on a dozen or so places in the area before deciding on Goddard. Any preschool can sound great on paper or look wonderful on a website. Goddard has a terrific PTA (which I serve on the board) and community events so parents can get to know one another. And the staff is really receptive to feedback and being new and all, there’s an enthusiasm to make parents and kids happy there. The BEST way to get a sense is to bring your child in and observe. Then follow your gut on what feels right for you.

As monkeysmama said, no TX preschool teachers are certified by the state. This state doesn't have a certification process for early childhood educators. Some schools certify their own teachers, which mean that the teachers meet the training and education standards set for by that particular school.

Some Kindergarten or PreK teachers in preschools are certified by the state board of education to be able to teach in public schools and happen to be working in a preschool, but there is no specific state certification for a teacher to work in a preschool.

I'm planning to enroll my son in March. He'll be in the 2 1/2 program. How does your son like it so far? I'm debating between Goddard and Primrose East Allen. Any inputs or advice will greatly be appreciated. My main concern is learning, interaction, caring teachers, and helping the kids to be self sufficient (i.e. potty training). Thanks!
