1/3/2011 Observations:
The Fire Pit Cafe - Looks like the place has been under construction for a long time but with no progress. I don't think any work has been done on it for over three months...Looks questionable as to whether it will ever open.
Braza Dancante - Slowest restaurant to open at the V at A. Still under construction, but looks pretty close to opening. Has been under construction for over a year and a half. They seem committed though, although they missed out on a great opportunity to cash in on the holiday traffic. If they open this month, they will be seeing the slowest traffic of the year. This is one restaurant that I look forward to visiting (if reasonably priced). I think that they will have to be more competitive than Texas do Brazil or Fogo do Chao to make it. They will also have to have something to attract return visits and develop a positive word of mouth to compete with the remaining restaurants in the area. The ratio of shops to restaurants at both V of A and V of F seems way too high...
Pane e Vino (old Tacone Grill) location...Interesting, but a good strategy since there aren't any Pizza places at the either Village. Though (and it's just my opinion) it will be hard to beat Grimaldi's. Grimaldi quality with lower prices - I'm there!!!
Logans Steakhouse - looks like about a month away from opening.

First at Allen
1. Nates: Closed within 6 months.
2. Olive Garden: Will do ok - depends on parent company status. Name recongnition will keep place busy enough to stay afloat.
3. Dodies: Not sure...never been there. Dependent on Event Center Status which is hurting right now.
4. Mooyah: Seems to be doing well. Will survive.
5. Tacone Grill: Never been there, never see cars there - 12 months
6. Wich-Wich: May survive due to larger chain
7. Freebirds: Will surive, although better product available at Chipotle's.
8. Uncle Julios: Seems to be thriving...always packed.
9. BJ's: Seems to be doing OK..
10. Thai Box: Don't know
11. Cotton Patch: Will struggle - too small of store front compared to other Cotton Patches.
12. Chaucers and Braza Dancante: Unknown brands/concepts that may struggle if they put out an average product/price.
13. Paradise Bakery: similar concept at Watters Creek failed pretty quickly.
14. Cowboy Chicken: What???? Quick death..

That was my post from long ago....I failed pretty miserably with the exception of Tacone Grill.
Haven't heard anything about Nate's...I still think something will eventually happen there...Wish we had one or two of the Pappa's concepts in the area...I think they would do very well!

According to the VatA website, Nate's is now "Hook's Landing". Someone said it's just a name change; are we sure it didn't include an ownership change? Still serving Cajun, apparently.

Wow, that's more than just a "name change" for Nate's - menu is very different, much smaller selection. This doesn't bode well, although, Nate's couldn't make it with a bigger menu, so who knows. The small menu thing works for Joe T Garcia's, I guess :) (and no, Hooks' menu isn't THAT small)

I talked with the an employee the other day and they said it was the same owner, just a different name. They also said less Cajun more "Texas swamp food" - whatever that is.

The only difference between Texas swamp food and Cajun food is the amount of state income tax paid my Swampers that harvest it!

The Fire Pit was taken off the VatA directory. Maybe that's why construction seems to have stalled for months.

Firepit is dead. Hook's will be painting the building when weather permits and Braza is moving at glacial speed. Panevino set to open 2/15 and Logans on 2/21
