ksa1, since you're new here and have not probably read all ov vm7mm's posts regarding the APD... it seems that some on here do not like the APD at all. They apparently feel that a few bad apples have affected the entire force.
I, for one, have never had an issue with them. Any time that I have encountered them, they've been very cordial, polite, and very business-like. Police business, that is.
That said ... what do YOU think about the APD?

I find them to be respectful men and women who have chosen to do a job most of us would not. I think we all benefit from their decision and should be thankful.
That being said, there will be occasions that bed experiences happen. I encourage anyone who has had a bad experience to utilize the tools available to them to report the issue and work towards a resolution.

I've lived here in Allen since Aug 94. Yes, I live a boring life and don't do anything wild. The few times I'm interacted with Police, they have been professional and courtous. Even when I accidently set off my Alarm in the middle of the night.

This should be interesting and once again we're . After going through the Allen Citizens Police Academy, I was privileged to do a couple of ride-outs, where I got to ride with an officer. One was from 4pm to midnight and the other from 8pm to 4am. Around 2am, the officer I was with pulled over a brand new convertible mercedez with 4 females. They were exceeding the speed limit on McDermott by quite a lot. During the stop, I could hear from the speaker inside the car the conversation going on between the officer and the young girl who was driving.
She called him every name in the book, and some quite embarrassing even for me to hear, throughout the entire stop. She told him what her daddy was going to do to him and her choice of words were unbelievable. Throughout the stop, the officer kept his composure and maintained a level of professionalism that I truly don't believe any other person could have, which I attribute to his class and training with the APD.
I know of another occassion where a young person went home after being stopped and told their father things the officer said and did, which were all a lie. Their father, his attorney and the young person came to meet with the police about a law suit they were filing. After seeing the tape of the stop, it quickly became clear all the unappropriate actions and words came from the person being stopped, not the officer.
I've lived here for 17 years and raised my family here and never, ever had any experience with the APD except for the highest and utmost professionalism.
BTW, together my wife and I have 5 sons, so
teenage boys being a target of the APD doesn't hold water with me.

Glad you had good experiences in dealing with APD. Unfortunately, some of us are not that lucky. I've had three bad experiences with APD.
The first one occurred about 5 years ago when a neighbor was illegally shooting fireworks on the 4th of July. He fired some type of rocket that landed in my back yard and started a fire along the fence. Fortunately, I had two brother in laws visiting from out of town who were volunteer firefighters in the town they live in and were able to put the fire out quickly. I called APD and after about an hour called a 2nd time. After 2 hours and 45 minutes from the original call, someone finally showed up, took a statement, then left. Drove right past my neighbor's house without even bothering to stop.
The second experience occurred last year when my then 9 year old son was physically assulted by his daycare teacher and he ended up with a bruise on his chest. The police didn't question the teacher for two days! To make matters worse, we found out the teacher is still working in that daycare today. Had we not notified his school administrators what happened and they saw the bruise on his chest, what do you think would have happened? I bet APD & CPS would have been at my house in a heartbeat threatening to remove him and our other children from the home and blaming us.
The third one occurred just last month, on a Saturday night around 2:00am. My wife heard a noise outside and she looks out the window to see car in stopped in front of our house and a man standing in our yard relieving himself. She wakes me up and she then turns on the front porch light. The guy is obviously drunk and when my wife turned on the front porch light, the guy starts taunting her by shaking his "manhood" towards the front door. At this time, I' grab my 45mm but my wife refuses to let me out the door, fearing he may be armed too, so she calls APD. There's a female in the car who then gets out and starts throwing up and gets it all over herself, so she takes of her top and bra. She grabs her top and gets in the car, leaving her bra behind on the street and they take off. To their credit, APD gets there in time to stop them just down the street 3 houses down. However, after talking to them for about 5 minuts, they let them go.
I hate to bash on APD because they do have a very tough job, but based on my personal experiences, let's just say I've lost some confidence in them...

If you got the license plate number of the vehicle in front of your house, PM me and I will get you a name to who it is registered to. It could be very interesting to know.

I did not get the license plate number. The vehicle was directly in front of my house so I didn't have an angle to see it.

I have not interacted with every person on the department but 3 of the four I have were badge heavy thugs.

I've had a lot of interaction with our police force and have found them to be a professional and courteous group of professionals. They take the safety of Allen very seriously and do their best to make our town as safe as it's been.

I've had an especially bad situation with APD. In my opinion, our Police Department spends too much time with it's hand out for grants and special interest funds. Example, my daughter had been a Kroger employee some time back. When she hired on, she was hired on as a bagger and underwent the most superficial orientation that basically stated don't sell alcohol to anyone under 21. It was literally a 10 minute video. Forward two years, Kroger is short checkers and my daughter is asked to help with checking. Zero refresher in how the system verifies age and worse yet, all the orientation she received was via other teens. This was back when all the Kroger managers hid in the back office and let the kids run the show. Unfortunately at this time, the kids were all making age judgments visually, then requesting ID or hitting the override button to continue the sale as instructed in her checking orientation given by unsupervised teens. It wasn't but a few days of this when APD stopped in with staff on overtime funded by grant money from Mothers Against Drunk Drivers. Out of all the kids checking this day, my non-caucasian daughter was selected to be tripped up by a police plant who my daughter believed to look 21 due to build and facial hair. Keep in mind my daughter had significant learning disabilities known by Kroger. My daughter ended up completing the sale to this young man and was subsequently arrested and APD unnecessarily ran her through the gauntlet as if she deliberately sold the alcohol to a minor friend. Police in this case have many, many avenues they can take, but due to the need to show MADD their money was well spent and they wanted more, they had to have the full on arrest rather than cite her with a fine and a court summons. Most assuredly, my daughter who had never ever had a runin with any authority figure previously, would have more than learned a valuable lesson and never made the same mistake again. Unfortunately, the lesson learned was much different. She got to witness my attorney rip their case to shreds to the point the DA as well as the Judge threw it out entirely, which changed her view of police forever and not in a good way. They're not always the good guys and now my daughter has to explain this arrest whenever she undergoes a background. I don't necessarily blame the officers, their like military privates, they follow orders, stupid or not. I for one am pleased to hear the APD Chief is retiring.

Yes, the same thing happened to my son many years ago at Krogers. I thought that they had stopped doing that undercover sting operation because it was entrapment. It's not hard to trick or fool a 16 year old working at Krogers. Any veteran cop with the resources that is availible to them, can trick anyone and will especially with an inexperienced teen who is naturally unsuspecting. I do think that we need the Police, they are a value to any community. I just feel they need to stop and realize that not all of us are the bad guys, and we as a community do get treated that way sometimes from them. I am glad that the chief is leaving too. Maybe we can get someone who will start some sensitivity training within the department. So we can all get treated with fairness and dignity.

Sounds like the police were well within their bounds, even if it was on the harsher end of those bounds. However, it seems you might have had a great case of negligence against Kroger. From what you wrote, it seems like they were the real problem here.
