I just saw "Matts Rancho Martinez" is coming to Allen. They have the best Mexican Food ever. Started in Lakewood years ago and had a spin off down in Oak Lawn, Mattios. They also have the biggest, most tender chicken fried steak you will ever eat. Also have a queso with quac, sour cream, meat and cheese called a "Cowboy BoB" that wasn't on the menu before but it's to die for. Can't wait. Also, just saw the new Dairy Queen on Main St. We are getting all the good stuff here.

Nope ... sorry. It's west.

Seriously, though ... it's in the old Bennigan's/Trinity Hall location.

Ahh, very nice to know. I'm familiar with the one in Firewheel (general area in North Garland) but have never eaten there. That one has always been packed out and then some each time I've driven by. Must be doing something right, but I'm sure that's a matter of opinion -- I have yet to form one of my own. Perhaps I'll try it when it opens here in town...

They're open. Just got back from there. Good stuff. Kids had the taco and enchilada from the kids menu. I took a bite of the taco ... very good. Chips were warm, salsa was flavorful and had a kick to it. Margaritas were light, but potent. After browsing the menu, the wife and I opted for the brisket fajitas. Wow. Very good stuff. So much more on the menu to try, though, so we'll have to return to sample other dishes. The menu, quality, and service all stack up to the Matt Martinez family traditions and I think they'll do well here in Allen. Glad to have them here.

If you liked the brisket, you will love the smoked bob. Very good. Yesterday the wife and I split the Chili releno and mushroom and spinach enchiladas with green sauce. and let me tell you, SO MUCH FLAVOR!!!!!! Can't wait to go back.

Tried their fajitas yesterday....Not so good. The chicken was cooked like it was in a broth...Not grilled/marinated chicken. Maybe that's just the Austin style...

I will probably make one more try on their enchiladas...but thumbs down on fajitas...

Will add that their service was good and attentitive. Their chips and salsa were good, as well as their special queso. Place was nice and clean...

Tried it last night. Had the Bob Armstrong Dip since it is their specialty. It was queso with taco meat, sour cream and avocado. It tasted like queso with taco meat, sour cream and avocado in it. Not a very tasty combination. Then I had their Chicken Fried Steak (it is also their specialty). Had to be about the least flavorful CFS I've ever had.

Was hoping this would be my new favorite Mexican place... but we found it to be disapointing.

I guess I simply have to ask, and no disrepect intended, if you ordered an item that was supposed to be queso with taco meat, sour cream and avocado and it tasted like queso with taco meat, sour cream an avocado, what were you expecting? And I suppose if I went to a mexican food restaurant and ordered a chicken fried steak, I certainly wouldn't have high expectations. I'm sure CFS isn't a traditional mexican recipe. I don't think I'd go to Black Eye Pea and order enchiladas and expect much either.

We went last week. Not impressed. We had the tenderloin fajitas. Just ok. Not much seasoning or flavor.

In defense of the previous poster, the restaurant raves about their CFS. It was prominent on their menu and suggested by the server. We passed, but they definitely consider it a specialty of theirs.

For the sake of the Chicken Fried Steak...... The key to there reasoning of being a specialty is that you need to have it with Green Sauce..... It is the way to go. Mr Martinez use to love to fry anythign and everything. He is the one that introduced Julia Childs to the CFS also. Everyone is entitled to there opinion.

Suggestion is to try it with the Green Sauce.

Then why did you order chicken fried steak? I found it odd that was on their menu. I'll stick to Mexican food in a Mexican restaurant. And on the same note, I'll avoid Mexican food in a restaurant that doesn't specialize in Mexican food.

Al, good point. But if I'm the owner of a new restaurant, I realize that I get one chance to earn a first impression. If it's on my menu, it better represent an impression I want people to go home with. Especially if my staff is recommending it. Just my opinion.

However, even my fajitas were less than inspiring, so maybe it's just a "newness" issue.
