We love walking the trail behind Boone Elementary and have noticed a lot of work going on in the lovely wooded area next to it. Will this be for the public to use, neighborhood, or what? The shelter/fireplace area is going to be beautiful!

I could be wrong, but I believe that property belongs to Twin Creeks HOA so it would be part of their neighborhood amenity center.

I lived on that land up until 98. I believe the pavilion slab is still there. Our house was where the east side of the school sits. There was a house, and the pavilion, (of course) and a 100,000 gallon swimming pool there, 11 acres total back then. Twin Creeks bought it but I think the City traded some of their land for part or all of it, not sure. I wonder if they are building where the pavilion slab is? It was octogon shaped and close to a tree that had fallen and then grew horizontal.

There is an area adjacent to Boone Elementary called Dayspring Nature Preserve that is maintained by the City of Allen Parks & Rec. Dept. I'm not sure if this is the place the OP is indicating. One of our scouts from our troop did his Eagle Scout project out there for the school a couple years ago and put in an outdoor classroom area.

If you look at the area on google maps, there is a large area that looks like concrete in an interesting shape that lies beneath the trees. Is this the foundation you mentioned VM?

Does anyone know if the parks "close" at night? I happen to live next to that day spring nature preserve and it has become nothing more than a "weekend party park" for local teenagers that have no where else to go at night to do their smoking and drinking. We have to go out every Saturday and or Sunday morning and pick up their trash. Listen to them screaming and yelling at midnight or later and then speed down our cul de sac when they leave. I'm tired of it and tired of having to call the police all the time. I'm just wondering if there is something the city could do. I don't think our neighborhood parks should be allowed to be used like this.

My suggestion on the party in the park situation is to notify the police so they do more drive-bys and monitoring of that area at night. And, if they're making that much noise, call the police to come take care of the situation. That is their job.

We were at Boone recently for a basketball game and my son and his friend were back behind the school playing and noticed a group of boys shooting off either air soft or pellet guns. My son and his friend actually called the police's non-emergency number and they came out to check it out -- unfortunately, a parent came by, picked up the kids and sped off before the police arrived.

Here's what's on the City's P&R site:
Dayspring Nature Preserve Phase III
Improvements include a new pavilion with architectural stone accents that are representative of past works of the Civilian Conservation Corps, who constructed more than 800 parks nationwide. Phase III will also include nature trails with interpretive signage and other various open space improvements. Construction is anticipated to be completed Spring 2012.
BTW - if you have kids, many of them refer to this park as The Butterfly Park.

Ok... don't laugh but I have to ask since I have never been there and my daughter loves butterflies. I'm assuming it is called the butterfly park because there are a lot of them there. Are there a lot of wild flowers or something that attracts them there because on Google maps it looks like a lot of trees?

The creek on the east side of the property flooded once and the water pushed all of the debris on down the creek and revealed a dinosaur footprint. It was visible for maybe four years until around 95. Some large rocks fell on top of it covering it up. I still have a picture of it.

AllenSince1979- Parks in Allen do close at 11, keep calling APD when the kids are there. It's an ordinance. Annoying to have to keep calling yes, I agree...you might request a routine cruise by as previously suggested, but I fear you'll still have to call at times.
Hee hee, back in my day we would get chased out of Ford Park by APD, some things never change!

Given the abundance of butterflies in our backyard this year, I would suspect there's lots of butterflies at the park this year.
Is there a curfew in Allen?
Yes. Persons age sixteen (16) and younger are prohibited from public places without adult supervision between the hours of 11:00 P.M. and 6:00 A.M. on Sunday through Thursday and between the hours of 12:01A.M and 6:00 A.M. on Friday and Saturday. Certain exceptions may apply.
Also there's no smoking Allen parks, something the kids tend to ignore.

I have lots of butterflies in my yard too, but I do plant things that attract them. Gotta love all the red admirals, gulf fritillaries, painted ladies, swallowtails and many other butterflies we're seeing. There is plenty of things in a wooded area that butterflies will eat such as sap and even dung. There are also plants they use as host plants for laying their eggs in a wooded area, so although many butterflies do feed on nectar, not all need wildflowers for their food. That is really neat that the neighbors call that area the butterfly park.

I'm not talking about 15-16 year old kids, these kids are probably 17-18 years old. The speed with their cars around our cul de sac. I wouldn't mind so much if I didn't get stuck picking up there beer cans and fast food trash in the mornings, not to mention they leave their trash around the creek.
Speaking of butterflies, I have a crepe myrtle outside my kitchen window it already has aphids I was going to spray it until I noticed it is covered in butterflies. Why are they so attracted to this tree is it because of the aphids? I don't want to spray the tree now and kill them.
