I am looking for someplace affordable to host a birthday party for my dad. He will be 80 in February, but will be back in Vegas at that time. I'm wanting to plan a surprise party for him while he's down here for the holidays because we have a lot of family in this area.
Does anyone have suggestions of restaurants with a room you can reserve or other locations where I could have the party catered? I kind of like the idea of having it someplace other than a restaurant since some of the family members would be coming from out of town, and I don't want anyone to feel that we're being rushed to finish up and get out.

Shady Oak BBQ in Plano has a party room that you can reserve but you have to have a large group if you want to keep the room just for your party.
Allen Parks & Recreation has three facilities for rent (Community Room in the old library, Lakeside Clubhouse at Joe Farmer, Recreation Hall at the old fire station). You can have catered food brought in but you have to do the setup/clean up yourself. I used the Community Room last year and had Jason's Deli delivered for a reception event. Two Rows also caters to those places but I don't have any personal experience with their catering.

Thanks for the information. I will check into those locations and see what they have to offer.

Somehow my reply didn't get captured again? Anyway I was thinking about the Senior center when I tried. But now jogo's suggestions will determine the same possibilities?

A couple of other suggestions:
I have been to private events at the Heritage Train Station downtown (but I am not sure whom you would contact for that) and we used a lovely room at the Heard Museum for #1 son's Eagle Ceremony.
These are both places where food would have to brought/catered in.
How blessed you are to have your dad with you for this happy occasion. Hope you have a wonderful celebration!!

The city used to rent the Train Depot but I don't believe they do that any more. Michelle Fickle at Parks and Rec is the person to speak with about renting any of the city owned facilities. The Senior Center has been used by groups loosely associated with the city like the Friends of the Allen Library and the Allen Arts Alliance. I don't think they rent it to the general public but Michelle would know. The Arts Alliance had a big gala over the weekend. Two Rows catered the dinner and Elke's catered the desserts. Both were excellent.

The city no longer rents the Train Depot. I tried to get it for my event last year but Parks & Rec had already stopped renting it out.

Italian Villa has a party room that is separate from the rest of the restaurant. I've never been in it, so I don't know how big it is, but I've seen the doorway.

How sad. The Train Depot 'was' the best place in town for a nice event. My daughter had her wedding reception there and it was so beautiful. The space was easy to decorate to achieve the best look for each and every event.
Anyone know why it isn't rented anymore?

The Allen Heritage Guild is using the "Train Depot." They have historical displays housed there. I believe the thinking is that it was meant as a replica historical building to highlight local Allen history.

That's basically what Michelle Fickle told me - they had decided to use it just as a museum.

I had hoped for that actually. I need to visit them again, now that I know that.

I'm not aware of it. I've been chatting with someone there, regarding a scooter. I can ask him.

Nope, not that kinda scooter thingy. But it might be fun at Kroger....next time the hoodlums are in there on a road rally in the store's scooter buggies. I'll cut 'em off at the pass....or the tomatoes, whatever.
