I thought I'd start a thread on our favorite recipes for Thanksgiving. Please go ahead and list your recipes here.
I love making my own cranberry relish. The cranberry sauce in the can looks like cold liver to me, so I make my own.
Cranberry Relish
Combine in a large skillet:
1 pound cranberries, picked over - remove bad ones
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup orange juice
2 tsp. orange zest
Cook, uncovered over medium heat until most of the cranberries pop open and the mixture is somewhat thickened, 7 to 10 minutes. If desired, add:
1/2 cup blanced almonds, slivered or chopped peacans or walnuts
Let cool and serve or refrigerate for up to one day ahead.
This is just one recipe. I've also used one where instead of orange juice, the recipe called for apple juice. There is also another version that calls for a tablespoon of chopped jalepenos, without seeds. Now that one was a surprise for everyone who tried it!

I always make a delicious turkey from Bon Apetit, 11/1994. It has apple cider and maple glaze with
herbs, and is a perfect fall combination.
I brine the turkey overnight on Tuesday(rinse very well) and let air dry in fridge for one day
before cooking.
Here is the recipe:

Note: If I can't find apple cider, apple juice is
fine. Also, the apple brandy for the gravy I don't keep around, so just a touch of regular
brandy or bourbon is OK, or just omit.

I was watching Alton Brown's show on Food Network the other day and he showed how to brine a turkey. Here is the recipe he used with all the instructions. It took awhile for this page to load, so be patient:

That recipe is exactly how he told how to do it on his show, so I'm sure it will turn out great!
