We're in Beacon Hill and the power has been out for probably a half hour solid, and intermittent before that.
Anyone else? Yes, I realize it's kind of tough to post when the power's out, but I found out from my wife (who's at home) and I'm posting from the office.
I thought underground utilities were supposed to keep this from happening? We've lived here for almost 10 years and we've had plenty of outages, including that big one last year where we were down for over 12 hours.

Yep, power keeps tripping over here too. Common in windstorms, and there are fires in the Metro area as well. Power lines, trees and more, are a problem. It dies down here, so I'm listening to the news and posting. When it kicks up again, the puter will go off again. Bye.

I'm in Twin Creeks; no outages or flickering yet (knock wood).
Where are the fires? I thought I smelled smoke when I opened the door earlier.
edited to add:
I can't believe how the humidity has plummeted. Yesterday our little monitor was at 90%, but now we're down to 26%.

It's been blinking in east Allen off of Bethany/Allen Heights. It went out for about 10 minutes and then came back on. I'm surprised that it hasn't been worse. My part of the neighborhood is notorious for having power outages for such things as: moon too bright, ground hog's day, barking dogs, and sneezes. I think that our part of the power grid is made from old East German surplus parts.

nomoon summed up my area very well, haha. Power has gone out for many causes.
As for smoke smell, I noticed it too. I don't know of any actually in Allen yet. But that serious emergency in Wise County might explain part of it, given the winds.

We still have power in Waterford Trails. However, we lost power yesterday for about an hour. I am thinking with all the construction, etc. that something was cut...

Lights were apparently off and on (mostly off) for most of the afternoon at Green Elementary.
I'm sure the kids loved that.

Firemen around the metro should sleep very well tonight if the winds subside. I have heard sirens all day long. Thank goodness for such troopers!

These events are very demanding on communities. Typically, there will be calls for service "lined up" waiting for resources to leave previous locations. So you're right on the money, haha. It is a relief when things slow down. I've heard rookies say they wanted more activity sometimes. And some of us tell 'em to be careful what they ask for.
No doubt some of these "calls" are alarm related, given the power complaints. Yet each should be checked to verify no fire is hidden, which is sometimes hard to determine.

Not ALL of the utilities are underground. If the station feeding your underground utilities goes out, so do your utilities.
