Could someone please recommend a local (Allen or Plano)dermatologist for dealing with acne in particular.
I've bought my son an array of acne creams and soaps, and so far nothing has helped. I thought that the "AcneFree" treatment would have worked, but it really hasn't made a big improvement. I worry about scarring.
Thanks for any input you may have.

Dr. David Allen is a Derm and he also does Family Practice. Nice guy and I'm sure he'll take good care of your son. B

I can't say specifically about that condition...but I like Dr. Terrill in Plano. And dadburnit, I'm overdue to get back over there.

I second Dr. Terrill. He is an excellent doc. Very concerned and will spend the necessary time to deal with your concerns.

I went to Dr. Allen for horrible adult acne. He put me on Accutane, which was a little scary. But he & his staff kept close watch over me.
The entire staff is very nice. Location is good.
My only complaint is that while going through my treatment, he seemed to golf a lot, and that limited the appointment times available to me and I missed a lot of work.
I would go to him again. But best bet, is to contact your insurance and check to see who you can go to, since acne treatment can be very costly and a lot of the meds are not covered.

Good idea, I'm glad you mentioned that.

My son's doctor prescribed an acne medication for him that cost over $100 for a 30 day supply (even with our insurance). I decided that was just too much $$ and didn't get it filled.
My son used ProActiv (the one you see advertised on TV, etc.) for awhile and now uses AcneFree. WHEN he does it exactly like instucted, his acne clears up pretty well. However, it's a battle to get him to do take the time required to complete all steps of the system thoroughly. Thus, the main reason I didn't want to spend more money when I didn't think he'd take the time to apply it properly. I thought the ProActiv worked better than the AcneFree. ProActiv also comes in a stronger strength than they advertise but you have to ask them for it.

Third for Dr. Terrill. I think I was actually referred to him from this site as well. His office staff is very nice also.

Debbie - I also recommend Dr. Terrell in Plano. He has been in practice for many years. His office is across from Plano Medical Center on Coit & 15th.
Dr. Barrows here in Allen is also a good dermatologist. It is a long wait to get in for an appointment with him if you are a new patient though.
In the meantime, tell your son to drink plenty of water, eat the recommended amounts of vegetables and fruit, wash his face twice a day with a mild soap and use a 10% benzoyl peroxide on the spots after he washes. I think sometimes we try so many things on our skin that we overdo it and that causes even more irritation.
