For those of you who like the Sookie Stackhouse books, you'd probably also enjoy Kimberly Raye's Dead End Dating series. The main character is a vampire fashionista who runs a Manhattan dating service.
If you're more into suspense, Kay Hooper has a great series about FBI agents with paranormal powers. There are three trilogies out now, and the first book in the 4th trilogy just came out.

I just finished reading John Grogan's latest, The Longest Trip Home. Another good read. The first few pages had me laughing out loud. He tells wonderful stories. A fine follow up to Marley & Me.

If you like story compilations and animals, check out James Herriot's Books. He was the Yorkshire vet who started his practice in the 50's (PBS had a series about him). Great stuff. His collection titled Dog Stories is a great read, you laugh and cry. My favorite is the story about a farting boxer!

Oh, I simply love James Herriot! Anyone who is an animal lover should read his books- his writing is just wonderful, a story of a Yorkshire Veterinarian with terrific animal and human stories. You do indeed laugh and cry. I often give his books as gifts. I really enjoy his _All Things Great and Small_ book; indeed, I enjoy the whole series. He is a charming writer.

If you love animals, travel and adventure, try anything by Gerald Durrell. He's a wonderfully engaging writer. Try "My Family and Other Animals" about his early years on the island of Corfu, in Greece, or alomost anything else. Only one caveat--a couple of his last books were somewhat depressing because he was, by then, ill and despondent over the fate of certain endangered species. The early works will make you laugh often and hard.
