Bizarre weather for sure... all hell broke loose there for a bit, now it's as if nothing happened. Hopefully not the calm before (another, worse) storm!

I say, tornadoes in December?! Hmph!

Shaky Shaky after that. I hope this is it for the night. I could use a very strong drink right now.
After April I don't think any of us have much tolerance for storms!

channel 8 reported a wall cloud at 75 and Bethany, five minutes ago.

I have been pacing from window to TV to window, wondering about yanking the kids out of their beds...

I agree!
Was sitting here, typing up an email for family Christmas plans, adding gift lists for the girls, and all of a sudden we looked at each other, and said "Is that rain?" then we waited for a second and was like "Sounds like hail?"

So I get up and open the back door, sure enough you can hear it hitting hard, but I didn't see it.

So I went to turn on the tv, and we got nothing, so while waiting for it to come back on, I opened the front door and heard the sirens .. I ran back to the bedroom and told hubby they were going off!! Then the tv came back on, and said tornado warnings.. then showed the circles right over Allen... so I was telling him it said to take cover, the sirens and hail .. he just said it means nothing, just possible tornadoes.. and kept playing his WOW! I was in a t-shirt for bed, and told him I was going to go get dressed just in case I was on the channel 5 news ... LOL

All seems good, and now in Princeton.

Did the sirens actually go off tonight?

If they did, I didn't hear them. They should have gone off or else someone wasn't doing his or her job.

The sirens are soooo weak. They sound like a wet finger rubbing the rim of a wine glass (when we actually hear them).

They went off, but I didn't look at the clock. Somewhere around 11:15? I'm at Alma and McDermott.

Yep, they went off. But as discussed back in the April tornado (geez, 2 in a year??), they're to warn people outdoors. They're not designed to be heard indoors. For those people, a weather radio is a necessity.

I didn't even think about the weather radio -- mine didn't go off!

Which reminds me, my unit has been recalled and I'm waiting for Oregon Scientific to send me a return label. If you have an Oregon Scientific weather radio, follow this link to see if your model number is affected by the recall:

Yep went off. I didn't hear them inside (didn't think the weather was bad to have them go off, and wasn't listening for them), but when I opened the front door to see the weather/hail, I heard them. And yes, they are very faint and sounds like a wet wine glass. Planos are air raid sirens, loud!

We are right next to Story Elementary. Not sure where the sirens are located near us.

Make sure you have your S.A.M.E. code programmed into your weather radio's (Collin County code is 048085) and you have selected which alerts to have go off. Tonight was one of those incidents that developed VERY fast. I was watching the radar until the storm came in then shut down and was just monitoring the TV and scanner, the hail came in pretty quick and gusty and then the weather alarm went off and NWS called out a tornado warning for Plano/Allen on the scanner. All happened in like 45 seconds, so it can happen quick.

DO NOT rely on the outdoor sirens, weather radio's are a worthwhile investment.

I heard the (weak) sirens also.....then they started talking. They said "tornado warning" and repeated several times. They were VERY weak and you had to listen very closely...and yes, I was outside.
I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it!

We have the Midland WR 300 and it didn't go off either, and it is programed with the code for Collin County, so go figure!

In fact.... We got it right after the tornado's last summer/spring and it has never gone off that I can recall since.

Makes me wonder if the thing even works?!

hum ... makes me wonder if we should buy one, you're not the only one that said their radio didn't go off ... in a matter of a few minutes this storm came through, and it was one that we all needed to know about.

I just have weather.com set to text my phone and have had no problems with that. I got the tornado warning and 3 others last night.

The sirens went off in the Vaughan neighborhood around 11:10 or so. We also heard hail prior to the sirens, so we took cover. The boys didn't appreciate being woke up to head downstairs to hide out in the bathroom, but we wanted everyone safe just in case. I turned on the tv when the sirens were going off to the government access channel with the weather radar and it showed three circulations from north to south right over Allen. The announcer said people in Allen and should take cover because a tornado had been sighted. Then within a few minutes the one at the south and the two towards the north became one circulation (they were real close together anyway) and it showed it going over the northern part of Allen. My husband is with CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) and didn't get any calls last night, so we assume there was no damage.
