H-E-B is not building a store on the land that they bought. Spoke with a contact and he mentioned that they plan on selling the land. Bought as an investment opportunity.

I doubt that is correct. Why would they have commitments with the bank and get blueprints done of absolutely everything just to sell the land? The representative at the city council meeting said they were eager to get started right away.

IF they decide not to build, it was not premeditated.

Well, I spoke with the person that arranges travel and he receives construction updates 18 months out and he doesn't have this one. Maybe it is being built later than 18 months...this information is coming from him.

I'm not surprised if it's another couple of years down the road (or more) before we'll see an HEB in DFW proper. I don't think HEB ever announced that they are coming yet. Now with Safeway looking for a buyer I'm sure they're probably on the cautious side.

Last month there was an article in the DMN that HEB had purchased property in Frisco as an investment property and planned on selling it some day, a practice HEB has been known to do.

I have been to the WinCo.

It is nice but you have to watch your prices. I am a pretty smart shopper. I wish they would advertise via mailer or email.

I wish they had more unique items as opposed to just a lot of the same stuff. That would keep me going there.

This is a very common practice by companies that have a lot of physical store fronts. They speculate on land in areas while it is cheap. If it works out that a store will go there, great, if not, they can sell it for a tidy profit once the area is built up. I believe Walmart owned the land at exchange/75 for many years prior to building the store.

Just an update, I noticed that the Mexican place next door to The House Cafe closed down again. Also, anyone know what is being built in the parking lot across from KFC? near Dollar Tree? It use to be a gas station, but they are working on it like they are fixing to build something new in its spot

That's still a few months away. Their half-baked ciabatta rolls are addictive, but it's a long drive to West Plano to get them.

They initially said they didn't plan on breaking ground until July 2014 for an October 2014 completion. Not sure if that is still the case.

Awesome. So glad to see the city continuing to work hard to draw employers to the area. This is key to making Allen long term sustainable rather than just another bedroom community.
